The Palaeontological Society of India instituted an award in the name of Dr. Rajiv Nigam considering his seminal contribution in the field of micropalaeontology. The corpus for this award was secured by the students of Dr. Rajiv Nigam, Former Chief Scientist and Head Geological Oceanography Division, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa.
The Medal shall be conferred on any palaeontologist (preferably micro-palaeontologist), working in India, in either permanent or temporary capacity and preferably below the age of 50 years. The nominations for the award may be forwarded by the Head of Department/Institute or desirous candidate can directly apply in response to the call for nominations by the Palaeontological Society of India.
The award shall be known as ‘Dr. Rajiv Nigam Medal’. A committee appointed by the Palaeontological Society of India shall evaluate all the received applications/nominations within the prescribed date for the award and recommend an individual for the Medal. The Selection Committee shall comprise, Head, Department of Geology, University of Lucknow, three experts, preferably micropalaeontologist, nominated by the executive council and the Secretary, Palaeontological Society of India who shall also act as the convener of the committee. The award shall be given once in two year i.e. alternate years. The award shall comprise a citation and a gold medal. The first award shall be given in the year 2021.
